CC Cross Country Teams Compete Well in Season Opener

September 3, 2012

The Clarendon College Men's and Women's Cross Country teams opened the 2012 season on August 30th at the Strohman Dental/MSU Stampede, hosted by Midwestern State University.

The teams competed very well given the level of competition at this meet.  Both of the Clarendon College teams placed 5th in their respective divisions.  Although all the runners competed very well, two runners stood out amongst the crowd.

The Clarendon College runners of the week are two freshman students-athletes.

On the men's side, freshman Tesfamariam Tesfay, from Stafford, Texas, finished in 18th place.  Tesfay ran a time of 18:26 over the 5600 meter course.  Tesfay actually led the race for the first mile and a half until being over taken by a very talented group of NCAA Division II standouts.

For the females, Bree Coons from Lubbock, Texas competed very well in her first ever college cross country meet.  She ended up in 40th place, completing the 4000 meter course in 17:49.

Congratulations to both of these runners, as well as the rest of the Clarendon College Cross Country team.
