Coach Miklannet Tennal doesn’t know if she is following in the footsteps of famous coaches who coached sports other than those in which they began their careers. She just knows she was born to be a coach.

Tennal began her coaching career as a basketball coach after a storied basketball career in which she scored over 2200 points in both high school and college. She was named first team All-State All-Classes in high school and was a two time junior college All-American at Cloud County Community College as well as the Most Valuable Player in the Division 1 junior college National Championship which her team won. Tennal continued her playing career at Texas Tech University and Emporia State University.

After assistant coaching stints at Division 2 Angelo State University and Division 1 Southeastern Louisiana University in basketball, Tennal changed course and took the head volleyball job at Clarendon College.

“I knew it was going to be a challenge, but I have wanted to be a head coach my whole life. This opportunity opened up, and now I have my own team and program,” said Tennal. “It just happens to be in volleyball, which was my first love as a kid anyway,” she added.

Tennal attended her first volleyball match when she was just five days old. That was because both her mom and dad were volleyball coaches. Her parents have combined to win 15 state titles, and 9 state runner-ups. Her father owns a career record of 456-24 and has winning streaks of 137, 78, and 76 straight matches. Her mother’s record of 728-111 includes a 126 match winning streak and string of 8 consecutive state titles.

Tennal played on three of those State Championship teams. She started all four years in high school and played in the State Championship game every y ear, losing a heartbreaker her freshman year before closing out her career with a 156-2 record and three consecutive State Championships.

“I know how to win, and I did not come to Clarendon College to learn how to lose. I know it won’t be easy, but I work hard, and I will never quit doing everything I can to put Clarendon College volleyball on the map,” Tennal stated.

Tennal has a BS in Health Promotion from Emporia State University, and a masters in Kinesiology from Angelo State University.
