ENGL 2331 – Non-Western Literature

Course description:  a survey of non-Western and non-European cultures through literature.  This course partially satisfies the requirements for the Associate degree at Clarendon College and is designed for transfer to a senior college or university.

 

Course objectives: 

·         explore and discuss the literature of non-western cultures

·         develop active reading techniques for enhanced comprehension

·         develop critical thinking skills through essay tests

·         apply the different eras of literature to modern life

·         demonstrate an understanding of literature as an expression of individual and human values

·         construct written analyses of literary works based on research about and selection of appropriate themes of literary criticism

·         read literature and write a critical analysis of it

·         articulate through written and oral assignments an appreciation of diversity

 

 Course outcome and value:  a better understanding of cultures other than the traditional Western heritage; a brief introduction to the literature and thought of those cultures.

This class is taught on the main campus.
