About Us

The library is named in loving memory of the late Mrs. Vera Dial Dickey (1890–1985), a life-long resident of Memphis, Texas, who had a passion for education.  The Vera Dial Dickey Library is conveniently located next to the Academic/Administration building, provides an attractive atmosphere for studying, listening, and viewing educational materials. The collection, which can be accessed through an online catalog system, reflects a diversity of viewpoints that encourages research and recreational reading, and is accessible through open stacks for easy browsing. The online catalog provides information access to over one million titles available through a shared database accessible by all library users off or on campus.

The 10,500 square feet library facility built in 2005 features an open computer lab (Bulldog Success Center), a testing area, and areas for study, research, and reading. The library has a seating capacity of 106 students in the main areas of the library, and 13 computer workstations. The testing area in the library has 4 computer workstations. There is additional seating in the Bulldog Success Center for 38 students, 25 of which are computer workstations. The total seating capacity of the library and Bulldog Success Center is 169. The library is equipped with wireless modems so that faculty and students alike can use their laptop computers anywhere in the library and access not only the college’s electronic resources, but also those resources available through the internet. The library also houses the offices of the Academic/Student Affairs Specialist and Director of Dual Credit.

The library receives book, magazines, and newspapers in print format; and additionally, provides electronic access to full-text books, magazines, journals and newspapers. All Clarendon College students are able to access the library’s website, online databases, e-mail, internet resources, and various software and micro-computer applications from any computer workstation in the library or on campus. The library is a member of the Harrington Library Consortium (HLC) which is comprised of academic, public, and school libraries in the Texas Panhandle.
