CLARENDON, TX: Clarendon College now has a new scholarship to offer local students thanks to the family and generosity of Tex Selvidge.
The Tex Selvidge Memorial Scholarship is a new scholarship offered to a graduating senior from Clarendon High School who will be coming to Clarendon College in the Fall 2021 semester. The scholarship is named after Leonard “Tex” Selvidge, a longtime friend of Clarendon College. Selvidge served the college for fifty years in numerous roles including counselor, registrar, recruiter and the Dean of Students. Following his career in higher education, he served on the Clarendon College Board of Regents until his passing in 2015.
Bradley Watson, the grandson of Selvidge, noted that his grandfather had a long and positive history with Clarendon College, serving in many roles. He had a strong passion for the students and wanted to make a positive difference in their lives. Watson stated the scholarship is offered to Clarendon High School for the 2021-2022 academic year, and will likely be offered to other high schools in the future. Selvedge’s passion for students left a legacy. The family wants that legacy to continue, and the Tex Selvidge Memorial Scholarship will do that very thing.
